Kris Spaepen, RN, CCRN, MScDM. Lecturer in nursing sciences at Karel de Grote University College, Faculty member of the European Master in Disaster Medicine (EMDM, www.dismedmaster.com) and PhD researcher in disaster medicine (ReGEDiM Brussels). He graduated as a bachelor in nursing at the Hogeschool Antwerpen (Belgium) in 2002 and obtained his advanced bachelor’s degree in accident and emergency nursing in 2003. While working as a registered accident and emergency nurse, he took postgraduate courses in disaster management at the Universiteit Antwerpen (2006) and in disaster medicine at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2007). After graduating as Master of Science in Healthcare Management and Policy at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2010) he obtained an Advanced Master’s degree in Disaster Medicine at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale 'Amedeo Avogadro' (Italy) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) in 2015. In 2016 he started his PhD research on the validation of a risk analysis tool for mass gatherings under supervision of Prof. dr. Hubloue. He teaches nursing students at Karel de Grote University College in Antwerp and is visiting lecturer in multiple courses at graduate and postgraduate level. He is still active as a accident and emergency nurse within the fire and rescue services of Willebroek (Belgium).
