Irene Maria Antunes Pereira, MD, MScDM EMDM. Assistant Professor - Medicine Course/Azores University in coordination with Faculty of Medicine of Coimbra University. Tutors´ Coordinator, Thesis Supervisor and Visiting Professor of the Master Programme of the European Master in Disaster Medicine (EMDM®).
She graduated in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Classic University of Lisbon- Santa Maria Hospital. She finished her residency in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care in 1990 and has been an Anaesthesia Consultant since 1996. She had a professional clinical career in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine and Disaster Medicine until Oct 2013. She obtained her master’s degree in Disaster Medicine (MSc DM, EMDM ®) in 2006.
She worked at the Anaesthesia Department in Lisbon (Santa Maria Hospital - 1990-1991) during her first year of post-graduation. After that and until 2013 she worked at the Divino Espirito Santo Hospital – Ponta Delgada, Azores in the Anaesthesia Department, the Intensive Care Service and in the Emergency Department as Director (2004-2007).
She was responsible for the Department of Medical Emergency and Disaster Medicine (1999 2011) and she was the Coordinator of several Hospital Commissions. From 1994 to 1999 she was also Assistant of the Clinical Direction of the Hospital and Director of the Medical Residencies.
She worked under direct governmental dependence with the Regional Secretary and Directorate of Health and with the Regional Service of Civil Protection, in regional, national and international projects (Interreg III- B – European Social Fund/FEDER) related with emergency and disaster medicine.
During her hospital career she was also Anaesthetist Residents’ Trainer, Anaesthesia Trainers Coordinator, Coordinator and Instructor of the Resuscitation Training Centre, Organizer and Trainer in Disaster Medicine courses and member and Technical organizer of the Hospital Nucleus for Professional Training.
